REBIRTH
By: Kyle Daley
The man had to take refuge in an abandoned church to escape the vampire hordes that had been chasing him night and, oddly enough, during the day. He tried to figure out what was going on as he sat in the church. At first all the conventional means had worked against them. After a while it seemed that the vampires had built up immunities to everything; lucky enough, they still aren’t allowed to enter blessed grounds. He needed to think of an escape plan quickly, because he knew the church wouldn’t protect him for much longer.
After about an hour or so of thinking of a plan, he heard a very disturbing and demonic laugh coming form nowhere. “Who’s there?” he yelled in a fearful voice. He looked around frantically but didn’t see anyone in the church.
“Do you really think that one human can hold off my vampire armies?” said the strange voice.
“Show yourself!” he yelled, fear still present in his voice. The next thing he knew he felt two sharp teeth softly poke the side of his neck. He threw a hand back trying to knock the creature to the ground, but there was nothing behind him. Then he felt the teeth again on the other side of his neck. “Who are you?” The man asked in a less frightened voice.
He felt a strong hand on his shoulder as it pushed him down onto his knees. “I am called Damien.” The man looked up at the figure, looking at his face in complete fear. He immediately grabbed a wooden stake off the ground and lunged at the creature. After a few steps he froze in his tracks. Damien walked behind the man and grabbed his neck. He looked into the mirror in front of him. The man’s eyes filled unspeakable terror. Suddenly a knife flew out of nowhere towards the vampire. Before the knife could hit him, Damien disappeared and then reappeared holding the knife to his neck.
“Don’t think that you’re a threat to me, I just need you dead for reasons beyond your knowledge.” he said as he held the knife even closer to the man’s neck so that the man could feel the cold steel of the blade press against his neck and the feel of the blood from the small cut running down his neck.
Suddenly a figure dressed in strange, very old clothing ran out of the crack in the wall where the knife had come from and stabbed Damien through the heart.
“Who are you?” he asked the strangely dressed figure.
“That’s not important right now. We need to go quickly.”
“But why are you helping me?”
“Because Damien needs to kill you so he can free It from his prison,” she said as she stared at him with an intense look on her face.
She turned around and pushed the mirror to the side, opening up a passageway to a torch lit tunnel that seemed to go on for ages. “Follow me.”
“Why?”
“All your questions will be answered soon. Just follow me.” she said as she started to go down the tunnel.
After a few hours of walking through the fowl smelling tunnel and crossing through bone ridden torture chambers connecting parts of the tunnel together, they came to the end of the tunnel. They stepped out of the tunnel and saw the ruins of an ancient city.
“Where exactly are we?” he asked, as he continued to look around at the ruins.
“The land of death.”
“So why are we here?”
“We need something.”
“What the hell is that?”
“You will find out soon enough.”
He entered the shrine so frozen in fear that he couldn’t even talk. As he entered the shrine he started to run straight to the room as quickly as possible. He entered the room and saw a sword with a bright black light emanating from it. “This must be what we need.” he said as he grabbed the hilt of the blade. As soon as he picked the sword up he heard a loud grumbling sound. He turned around and saw a giant golem starting to rise up off the ground. “Holy shit!” He ran back outside the shrine just barely avoiding the Golem. “Okay that was close.”
As they walked through the tunnel the man kept looking at the sword and got a very strange feeling as they approached the exit of the tunnel that would lead them to wherever they needed to go.
“Isn’t it obvious, you idiot? It’s a sword. You know something, you swing around and slice people into pieces with.”
“I know that. What I mean is why the hell is it glowing?”
“How should I know? Do I look like a book?”
They exited the tunnel and found themselves beneath the Eiffel Tower in the middle of Paris. The man looked around and noticed that the girl had just disappeared Just then a giant group of bats carrying blood bags, probably from a local blood bank or drained from the heads of decapitated humans flew directly at him. He quickly ducked down. He watched the bats fly straight into a distant castle and disappear from sight. “That must be where Damien is staying.”
After about 10 minutes he reached the castle and noticed the barrier around it. At first he walked around a few times to look for an opening big enough for him to slip through. He dropped the sword trying to walk through the barrier but was thrown back.. So he picked up the sword and tried to walk through the barrier again and to his amazement was able to pass through. “Alright, now all I have to do is find Damien and kill him.” He said as he entered into a large circular room.
“I see you finally made it here without dying.” The voice that was speaking was that of the girl. The man quickly turned around and saw the girl standing in front of a giant portal.
“Why are you here?” He asked as he approached her, loosening his grip on the sword.
“Isn’t it obvious?” She asked as he approached her. “I already took care of Damien before you got here and all you need to do is to toss the sword into the ports and everything will be back to normal.”
“Alright,” he said as he walked towards the portal. He stood in front of it and looked back at the girl.
“Do it and everything will go back to normal.” The man turned around and then threw the sword into the portal. As soon as the sword entered the portal a bright light flashed and the portal was gone.
“Finally, everything will be back to the way it was before
“Thank you for freeing It from its prison, you pathetic human,” she said in a very odd voice. In the blink of an eye she transformed into Damien. “You actually thought that a human could know all the things that she told you about It, the strongest and most fearsome being to ever walk upon this pathetic mud ball that you call a planet?”
A large tremor shook through the floor of the palace and the man turned around to find himself face to face with a large grotesque monster, with the organs of humans dripping from it’s mouth and puss flowing out of every orifice of its body. The monster must have been at least 10feet tall but was bending over so that his face was staring right at the man. The demon’s upper mouth seemed to be stitched together even though he had another mouth beneath it that was oozing with drool that burnt a hole through the floor. The demon grabbed the man’s body and chomped down, causing blood and pieces of muscle tissue mixed in with small parts of organs to fly out across the room.
